The Alpine Rafting stand up paddle board tour is 80 million years in the making. A “wild and scenic Rocky Mountain paddle” that includes 9 kilometres on a stand up paddle board. Guests get a first-hand view of 10,000 years of human history and the tour also features a 30-metre cascading waterfall. The tour concept was developed in 2013 by Alpine Rafting owner Jim Pleym. He wanted to be able to get clients to experience Wapta Falls in a way that has never been. The area is inaccessible to rafts, so Stand Up Paddleboard were decided to be the ideal craft for this unique and one-of-a-kind tour. The five-hour guided paddle tour takes guests from the pebble-bottomed Beaver River toward Yoho National Park, along the base of the base of Wapta Falls and then the Kicking Horse River. Guests learn how the region’s Aboriginal people used the rivers for transportation over the years, as well as for a food source. Tour guides also share stories from the 19th century, including those of the Canadian Pacific Railway and James Hector and the Palliser Expedition.
Along the tour, guests get to touch glacial fed river, enjoy sweeping views Chancellor Peak – one of the park’s eight 3,000+ metre mountains, and of course, and taken in vistas of Wapta Falls from viewpoints rarely experienced by most tourists.
